World Pneumonia Day.

Happy world pneumonia day to every survivor of this disease including myself out there today. A disease which can be caused by bacteria, fungi or viruses, pneumonia is a form of chronic respiratory infection that affects the lungs. Established by the stop pneumonia initiative in 2009, this day is celebrated every year on the 12th of November.

Having a theme of “Stop pneumonia, every breath counts”, this day raises awareness about this deadly disease and helps to encourage global support to help fight it. According to the W.H.O, pneumonia, which is the single largest infectious cause of death in children worldwide, accounts for 14% of deaths of children under 5 years old.

This year marked 7 years since I was diagnosed with pneumonia and 7 years since I successfully battled it. I remember the fear I felt but most of all, I remember the strong will I had to fight it and by God’s grace, I did so successfully. Pneumonia is not an illness to be overlooked because it affects everyone, both young and old. Just in 2019 alone, it claimed the lives of over 2 million people. It is treatable and is curable but due to the lack of adequate medical attention in some parts of the world, people still die from it. Raising the awareness about the need to raise action against it, will help to save a lot of lives in the world today. This is wishing everyone under the scourge of this disease a speedy recovery. Stay safe everyone❤.
